During the year Raymond Flood was Senior Tutor of Kellogg College, served as a Curator of the University Libraries, as a member of the Committee for the History of Science, Medicine and Technology as well as on other committees. He was President of the British Society for the History of Mathematics and Research Associate in the School of Theoretical Physics, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. During the year he was examiner for the Department for Continuing Education’s Diploma in Computing as well as the Advanced Diploma in Computing. He was also involved in developing and delivering an undergraduate course on the History of Mathematics. He was an external examiner for the Arab Open University and was appointed as an external examiner for London Metropolitan University.
He gave a lecture “William Thomson: Lord Kelvin” in a meeting at University College Dublin, on May 31st 2007, to mark the retirement of his supervisor Wayne Sullivan. At the joint meeting of the British Society of Mathematics with the Canadian Society for the History and Philosophy of Mathematics, held in Montreal at the end of July, he gave a paper in a special session dedicated to the memory of John Fauvel, the distinguished historian of mathematics.
He delivered to Oxford University his co-edited book (with Mark McCartney and Andrew Whitaker) “Kelvin: Life, labours and Legacy” in which he contributed a Chapter on Thomson and Tait: The Treatise on Natural Philosphy.
