The lecture entitled ‘Challenges facing women and girls globally’ was one of a series of special 25th Anniversary events being held by the College throughout 2015. During the lecture, Phumzile described the work of the UN which is dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women, she went on to highlight her own work through UN Women which was established to accelerate progress on meeting the needs of women and girls worldwide.

Phumzile also raised the issue of the need for positive masculinity and told us about a new campaign, HeForShe which is a global solidarity movement that calls upon men and boys to take action. The campaign strengthens the support for women’s rights as human rights, by enlisting men as advocates for gender equality.

The next 25th Anniversary event, for which booking is still open, is the 25th Anniversary Garden Party on 27th June.
