Donate your unwanted books

The College is seeking to create a collection of books which are ‘good reads’ for use by all College members and visitors to the short-stay accommodation, loosely modeled on the kind of collections found in some hotels. Most items will be kept in the MCR, with a smaller number in the short-stay accommodation. The collection will be managed by the Academic Officer of the MCR with any necessary assistance from the Fellow Librarian (though it will not form part of the Library). Books will be uncatalogued, and available for loan on a basis of self-help and trust.

We already have a small number of books to start the collection, thanks to the generosity of our late Honorary Fellow, Baroness (P. D.) James. In order to expand the collection, we  request that all members of the College community donate one item (or more) – something they have read and enjoyed, fiction or non-fiction, paperback or hardback, used but in good condition – to create a varied and viable stock.

Paul Barnwell, Fellow Librarian, says of the scheme,

This is a great opportunity to contribute to the creation of a new resource which will benefit all College members – including non-residents since we do not mind if books are taken out of Oxford as long as they are returned. If everyone donated one book – a book they might otherwise take to the charity shop – we should quickly have a substantial and varied collection.

Donations, marked for the attention of Claire Macht (Academic Officer, MCR), should be left with Reception.

We hope College members will see this as a useful additional facility and will donate a book to help get it off the ground.
