Kellogg Hub shortlisted for Building Awards 201731 July 2017
The Kellogg College Hub, which opened in May this year, is a finalist in the Building Awards 2017. Known as ‘the industry’s Oscars’, The Building Awards are the UK construction industry’s longest running and most prestigious recognition of excellence. The Hub is competing against the best new builds from across the UK and beyond in the ‘Small Project of the Year (up to £5m)’ category. Other finalists range from the German Embassy in London to Maggie’s Centre in Manchester. The full list of finalists is available on the Building Awards site.
The Hub is the first building in the University of Oxford to use the environmentally friendly Passivhaus design, which results in exceptionally low energy demand allied with the highest standards of occupant comfort. The ‘green’ nature of the building is echoed in the Café. It offers reusable ‘Keep Cups’ that are permitted in University libraries across Oxford, all packaging is compostable, the coffee served is Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade approved and also supports women’s charities, food is sourced as locally as possible, and food waste is recycled through the council scheme. It also stocks ethical mineral water brands that fund life-changing water projects in poorer countries and support WaterAid. All this whilst retaining the excellent quality for which Kellogg food is known.
The winners will be announced at a gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, on Tuesday 7 November 2017.
Meanwhile, if you would like to visit the Hub and see for yourself the beautiful design while enjoying the delicious food on offer in the Café, it is open daily throughout the vacation, including weekends, from 08:00 to 16:00 (excepting public holidays).
