Toon joined the Transport Studies Unit in October 2018 on the Vehicle-to-Grid Oxford (V2GO) project. The V2GO project is a large-scale trial project of electric vans. In the project, Toon studies the implementation of electric vehicles and V2G in the daily practices of fleet managers and drivers. He also evaluates the social and economic viability of different V2G models.

Toon’s research interests concern 1) The various roles of end-users in socio-technical transitions towards sustainability, 2) Processes of upscaling innovations, 3) The relationship between capitalism and innovations that foster environmental sustainability

Toon obtained a PhD from Utrecht University, The Netherlands. In his thesis Toon examined the role of users in the growth of car-sharing and electric vehicles.
