Dr Elisa Passini obtained her PhD in Bioengineering at the University of Bologna (Italy) in 2015, working on modelling and simulations of the human heart. She joined the Computational Cardiovascular Science group at the University of Oxford (Department of Computer Science) in 2013, and she is now one of the Senior Researchers in the group. Her research focuses on the development of human-based computer model of the heart to predict drug safety and efficacy. Elisa was awarded the 2017 International 3Rs prize for the contribution of her research to the replacement of animals in research, by showing how computer models can predict drug safety and efficacy for the heart with higher accuracy than animal experiments.
