Geoffrey Denwood

Research Member of Common Room

Postdoctoral Research Assistant

In January 2017 Geoffrey came to Oxford to undertake postdoctoral research under the supervision of Dr Quan Zhang at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism. His current research focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular control of pancreatic hormone secretion, with a particular interest in how glucose and other nutrients regulate glucagon secretion from alpha cells, a topic which is still debated and incompletely understood. He exploits electrophysiology, hormone secretion and imaging techniques to interrogate both the intrinsic and paracrine mechanisms underpinning glucagon secretion from alpha cells. They anticipate their research will lead to the identification of novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of diabetes and metabolic disease.
