Dr Jessica Briggs Baffoe-Djan is Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition at the Department of Education and a Junior Research Fellow of Kellogg College. She is Course Director of the MSc in Applied Linguistics & Second Language Acquisition, a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a member of the executive committee of the British Association for Applied Linguistics (BAAL).

Prior to becoming an applied linguist Dr Briggs Baffoe-Djan worked for many years as an English language teacher in the UK and overseas. Her research interests centre on language learning and use outside of the traditional second language classroom, including in study abroad and English Medium Instruction (EMI) contexts. She is particularly interested in language learner strategies and second language vocabulary use and development. Her work is published in such journals as Applied LinguisticsInternational Journal of Applied Linguistics, International Journal of Bilingualism, and System.
