Lester Barnsley is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Magnetic Array Design at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. As part of the Biomedical Ultrasonics, Biotherapy & Biopharmaceuticals Laboratory (BUBBL) at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Lester is working on the design and optimization of magnet arrays for use in magnetic drug targeting applications. In particular, this work is focused on developing magnet systems that are compatible with clinical imaging techniques, including ultrasound, and are able to apply magnetic forces to microscopic, magnetically-tagged drug carriers at useful tissue depths and against physiologically relevant flow conditions.

Lester completed a Ph.D. at Griffith University, Australia, investigating fundamental phenomena in magnetic spin glass and exchange bias systems at cryogenic temperatures. His current research interests include magnetic behaviour on the nanoscale, magnetic disorder, magnet array design and the use of magnetic phenomena in biomedical applications
