Café Manager (Maternity cover)

Grade 5: £24,983 – £29,799 pa

Kellogg College is one of Oxford University’s largest and most international graduate colleges and is the University’s leading college for students reading for degrees on a part-time basis. Kellogg has a new College Hub which is the heart of the College, home to the Common Room and café and open to all College members. We are proud that it is the first building in the University of Oxford to use the environmentally friendly Passivhaus design, which results in exceptionally low energy demand, allied with the highest standards of occupant comfort.

This is an exciting, interesting and varied role, which includes providing the highest standards of service across a wide range of food and beverage products, as well as preparing fresh food, and ensuring that service and seating areas are maintained to the required standards of cleanliness and hygiene. In addition, the post-holder will be responsible for stock management and ordering and for the overall ‘look and feel’ of the café area. The role will involve close liaison with all departments across the College, in particular with the catering, hospitality and events teams.

This is a busy, customer-facing post; it is therefore essential that you have excellent verbal communication skills and a naturally friendly and helpful nature. You should also be hands-on in approach, with the ability to manage a varied workload, under minimal supervision, with a willingness to work flexibly as part of the wider team. Experience in a similar food-service role is essential, as is the ability to prepare freshly cooked dishes from scratch; if you have worked as a barista then this would be advantageous, but training will be given if you have not.

Analysis of sales and margins will be expected, so IT skills are essential.

Regular hours of work will be 7.30am – 3.00pm Monday to Friday with some flexibility for occasional weekend work required. This is an annualised hours contract. Your hours will be worked flexibly and according to the needs of the College. Your weekly working pattern will be agreed in advance.

The Café Manager will manage the Café Assistants and report directly to the Head Chef.

The position will be available from September 2018 and is a fixed-term contract for 15 months.

In addition to salary, the College offers a range of benefits including a generous annual leave allowance, contributory pension scheme, and a free meal whilst on duty.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 9 July. Interviews are currently scheduled for Wednesday 30 July 2018.
