Part-time Hub Barista
Grade 3: £18, 777 – £21,585 p.a. (pro rata)
Kellogg College is one of Oxford University’s largest and most international graduate colleges and is the University’s leading college for students reading for degrees on a part-time basis. The College Hub is the heart of the College, home to the Common Room and café and is open to all College members. We are proud that it is the first building in the University of Oxford to use the environmentally friendly Passivhaus design, which results in exceptionally low energy demand allied with the highest standards of occupant comfort.
The job of Hub Barista offers an exciting opportunity for you to not only deliver excellent food and beverage services, but also to shape our service delivery and continually adapt and evolve to offer an exceptional commercial offering.
An interesting and varied role, your duties will include providing the highest standards of service across a wide range of food and beverage products, as well as supporting the Café Manager in preparing fresh food and drinks, and ensuring that service and seating areas are maintained to the required standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
This is a busy, customer-facing post, it is therefore essential that you have excellent verbal communication skills and a naturally friendly and helpful nature. You should also be hands-on in approach, with the ability to manage a varied workload under minimal supervision and a willingness to work flexibly as part of the wider team. Experience in a similar food-service role is essential, as is the ability to prepare freshly cooked dishes from scratch; if you have worked as a barista then this would be advantageous, but training will be given if you have not.
This role is offered on a part-time (27.5 hours /75.34%FTE) annualised hours contract. Your hours will be worked flexibly and according to the needs of the College. Your weekly working pattern will be 11.30- 5.30 Monday to Friday, in agreement with the Café Manager, with some flexibility for occasional evenings, Bank Holidays and weekend work required.
In addition to the salary, the College offers a range of benefits, including a generous annual leave allowance, contributory pension scheme and a free meal whilst on duty.
