The Hub’s Ethos

The Hub opened its doors for the first time on 2 May 2017 and has quickly become the heart of Kellogg College. The building offers a relaxed, comfortable space to meet friends.

Eco-friendly and ethical

We are proud that the Hub is the first building in the University of Oxford to use the environmentally friendly Passivhaus design, which results in exceptionally low energy demand, allied with the highest standards of comfort.

The ‘green’ nature of the building is echoed in the Café, where the majority of the packaging is compostable, the coffee served is Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade approved, food is sourced as locally as possible and food waste is recycled through a council scheme. We stock ethical mineral water brands, that fund life-changing water projects in poorer countries and support WaterAid and offer a discount when you use a reusable cup or mug. All this whilst retaining the excellent quality for which Kellogg food is known.

RIBA Award Nomination

The Hub is currently nominated for a RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Award, in the South Regional category. The results will be announced in May 2018. For more information about this, please read our RIBA Award article.
