Progress Meetings

All students are invited each year to meet with the President, Senior Tutor, or College Fellows, to discuss academic progress. These Progress Meetings are an opportunity for students to discuss their progress in the broadest way and, while no subject expertise is offered, they are a good opportunity to share both highlights and concerns.

The College listens to ideas and suggestions raised by students at these meetings, looking to enhance the student experience. This year, College has made several changes in response to feedback from meetings, and is working on many others. Student response highlights the importance of this cycle of feedback:

“Thanks to the College for doing all that it can to address student needs and problems.”

Below are some of the helpful issues raised and how College is responding:

  • Part-time students want to feel more comfortable when visiting College – The MCR President and a Junior Dean attend all guest night dinners and have agreed to be on hand to greet students arriving unaccompanied at events. The contact details for those wanting to make contact with a friendly face to meet at an event are junior.dean@kellogg.ox.ac.uk and florian.klimm@kellogg.ox.ac.uk.
  • Can there be more sports provision? – A new agreement with Oxford Council Leisure Centres is being trialled in Trinity Term 2017. This offers very competitively-priced access to a wide range of sport and leisure facilities, including indoor and outdoor pools, ice skating, gyms, sauna and classes.
  • How can students get involved in College life? – It isn’t always obvious so suggestions are now featured on the Get the most out of College life page and we welcome others.
  • Can there be desk lamps in the library? – Yes! We’ll be providing these in some College library rooms.
  • We would like to book events online – The College is considering the best system and hopes to implement this in the near future.
  • We love Kellogg food but can there be a more affordable dining option? – The Kellogg catering and hospitality team are looking at options and will be discussing this with the MCR.

“Progress Meetings offer students the opportunity to shape the environment of the College, ensuring we provide the right support, facilities and systems to support academic progress. They also allow us to discuss concerns that we can address in the College, the departments or at the University level. From a Fellow’s perspective they are an opportunity for us to learn about the welfare and experience of Kellogg students – meetings we thoroughly enjoy.” – Carl Heneghan, Senior Tutor

We welcome further suggestions, and if you have any please contact academic.office@kellogg.ox.ac.uk
