Richard Stevens is Associate Professor in statistics at the Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, where his research interests include diabetes and hypertension.  As part of the Centre for Evidence Based Medicine, he uses his own and colleagues’ research – such as the accuracy of breathalyzers when used in Oxford bars, and the value of speed bumps in diagnosing appendicitis – as examples when teaching on the M.Sc. in Evidence Based Health Care (EBHC); and also on the EBHC programme, he is delighted to be supervising a D.Phil. student who is applying the principles of evidence based medicine, such as blinded, randomized studies, to techniques from chiropractic and kinesiology.
