DateFriday 8 March 2024

LocationMeeting Room, 62 Banbury Road

The Palawan Island Palaeohistory Research Project, Philippines

Speaker: Dr Helen Lewis, University College Dublin

This seminar discusses the main findings and impact to date of a 20-year collaborative archaeology project in El Nido, Palawan, Philippines. The PIPRP has developed from a small-scale environmental archaeology project exploring prehistoric landscapes from cave sites into a major hub for training in regional archaeology, with hundreds of collaborators and research students being involved over its lifespan. In addition to important findings for regional prehistory, the project has had a significant heritage aspect which will also be briefly discussed. The project began while the speaker was a fellow in applied landscape archaeology at Kellogg and OUDCE (2002-4).

Refreshments will be served from 5:00pm.
