Current affairs from the High Commission, the Blue Bond explained, and a special feature on 30 years of Belizean Natural History.
For this year’s meeting Beverley Wade (Office of the PM) highlights the story of Belize’s Blue Bond, explaining the opportunities this debt-for-nature swap creates for conservation and development in Belize. We’ll have a summary of current affairs from Jordan Craig, Belize’s Deputy High Commissioner to the UK.
Our second session on Belizean natural history includes an exploration of the ‘old-growth forests’ of northwest Belize by Nick Brokaw and Sheila Ward. Our final keynote is by Professor Steve Blackmore (formerly of the Natural History Museum in London and Edinburgh’s Royal Botanical Gardens) who reflects on the last 30 years in the natural history of Belize, also helping us to remember Sharon Matola (Belize Zoo) and John Burton (World Land Trust) who contributed so much to conserving this land and protecting its flora and fauna, who both sadly left us this year.
This event is both in-person and online.
Booking deadline for in-person attendance: Friday 25 November
