Celebrating prize-winning innovation at Kellogg

Kellogg College is pleased to recognise the achievements of two members of our community who have recently received prestigious awards for their contributions to innovation and entrepreneurship.

Alumnus Zaid Ahmed (2017, PGDip Diplomatic Studies) has been recognised in the Business and Innovation category at the British Council’s Study UK Alumni Awards 2025 in Qatar. As part of the Qatar Free Zones Authority, Zaid has played a pivotal role in attracting hundreds of international businesses and start-ups to Qatar, advancing the country’s ambitions to diversify its economy and build a thriving, knowledge-based ecosystem.

Reflecting on the award, Zaid commented: “I am deeply honoured to have been recognised by the British Council at the Study UK Alumni Awards 2025 in the Business and Innovation category for my contributions to the Qatari economy. It was a privilege to share the stage with other UK alumni who have made significant impacts in their fields, in the presence of dignitaries from the Ministry of Higher Education and the British Embassy.”

Zaid’s work highlights the innovative contributions Kellogg alumni are making globally and demonstrates the role of UK education in shaping entrepreneurial leadership.

Research Common Room Member Adel Bibi, is a Senior Research Fellow in Machine Learning and Computer Vision (Department of Engineering), and was recently recognised for his pioneering work in AI safety. Adel BibiAdel has secured a highly competitive grant from the AI Safety Institute, part of the Systemic AI Safety Grants Programme, which supports research that strengthens societal resilience to AI-related risks.

His project, Safety of Operating Systems AI Agents: Formulations, Evaluations, and Certification, was selected as one of just 20 funded initiatives from over 300 applications worldwide. Over the next year, Adel’s research will contribute to a portfolio of work aimed at informing AI governance, improving risk mitigation strategies, and developing safeguards to help prepare society for future advances in AI.

These achievements underscore Kellogg’s commitment to fostering a community where innovative thinking and impactful research thrive.
