Kellogg Staff Member Wins Top Honour at Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards 2025

May 27, 2025

Jessica Weavers-Medina, Centre Administrator at the Kellogg College’s Global Centre on Healthcare and Urbanisation (GCHU), has been named Higher/Degree Apprentice of the Year at the prestigious Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards 2025.

The awards ceremony, held at Blenheim Palace, celebrated the achievements of apprentices and employers across the county. Jessie’s recognition highlights her academic excellence, professional commitment and leadership in championing sustainability and diversity within the University and beyond.

In announcing the award, judges praised Jessie’s attainment of her ongoing contribution to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) work, as well as her governance roles in further education and charitable organisations, and attainment of a First-Class Honours degree in Business and Management Practice (BA Hons) attained through a Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship.

As well as her role at the GCHU, she is also the elected Transgender Representative on the University’s LGBT+ Advisory Board, and a Co-Leader of the University’s EDI Community of Practice. Her recent award builds on previous recognition, including the University of Oxford’s 2023 Higher/Degree Apprentice of the Year Award.

Upon winning the award, Jessie said:

“This award acknowledges the effort and dedication I’ve invested in my apprenticeship and degree. Beyond that, it sends a powerful message that trans people have a rightful place in these spaces. We’re not merely taking part, we are excelling and leading the way forward.

I didn’t achieve this by hiding who I am. I achieved it by embracing my identity and being supported by people and institutions who saw it as a strength, not a problem to solve. So thank you to Kellogg College for seeing me and supporting me.
