Kellogg College is delighted to welcome novelist and journalist Katy Regan as this year’s Royal Literary Fellow. Katy brings a wealth of experience as a published author, journalist, and mentor.

She has written six novels, including her most recent work How to Find Your Way Home (Pan Macmillan UK and Penguin US, 2022), a powerful family drama set on the Canvey Island marshes. She is currently working on her seventh novel, a multi-generational story tracing a line of female hoteliers in her hometown of Morecambe Bay. Alongside her fiction, Katy has built an accomplished career in journalism, contributing to national newspapers and magazines, and writing features rooted in real-life stories and documentary reportage. Her project Before They Were Fallen, which recorded the testimonies of families bereaved by the Afghanistan war, now forms part of the permanent collection of the Imperial War Museum.

Katy Regan 2As Kellogg’s Royal Literary Fellow, Katy will be available for one-to-one support for students who would like to develop confidence and clarity in their academic writing. Whether you are struggling to get started, wrestling with essay or dissertation structure, or simply battling the fear of the blank page, Katy will offer a supportive space to discuss your challenges. She can also help with forming arguments, grammar, punctuation, and other aspects of good writing practice.

The Royal Literary Fund Fellowship scheme places professional writers in higher education institutions to offer writing support to all students as Writing Fellows. The principal aim of the Fellow’s work is to foster good writing practice across all disciplines. Katy is passionate about nurturing writers at every stage, from undergraduates to published novelists. We encourage students to make the most of this opportunity to benefit from her expertise.

Katy will be in College on Mondays and Tuesdays during term. 50-minute slots will be available between 10am-1pm, 2pm and 5pm. Her first week will be 0th Week (6-10 October). Meetings will take place in the meeting room in no.66 Banbury Road; you will need your University card to enter.

Of the appointment, Katy said:

“I am really looking forward to joining Kellogg College in October. Supporting students as they develop confidence in their own writing voice is at the heart of what I do, and it is always deeply rewarding. I am excited to begin working with a new cohort in my role as Royal Literary Fund Fellow.”
