Meet Matt: music producer, writer, care leaver, and Kellogg student
Matt Taylor is studying for his postgraduate Master of Studies in Creative Writing at Kellogg College.
Matt’s journey to Oxford is unique. Having left school with two GCSEs and no A-Levels, he initially did not think somewhere like Oxford was for him. Growing up in care, he had no support system to fall back on and worked tirelessly for a decade to achieve success in the music industry.
Now an award-winning music producer and writer, Matt is studying the MSt in Creative Writing, fulfilling his lifelong dream of studying at Oxford, and becoming a writer.
Matt is supported by the Care-Experienced Academic Futures Programme which he describes as ‘amazing’ and comments on how one of the best things about applying is that ‘it’s not too intrusive…you don’t have to prove your trauma.’
Matt says one of the best things about being at Kellogg is that ‘everyone you meet has a bit of life experience’
At Kellogg, you end up having some of the most enriching conversations ever. There is no pretence and there’s no entitlement to be here. Everyone puts everyone at ease.
At Kellogg, our commitment to lifelong learning and flexible study allows adult learners to attend one of the best universities in the world. We provide a home and a community for many who thought they could never study at Oxford. We aim to provide an environment in which our students can thrive; to be a home in Oxford that supports and champions them during their time here and beyond.
