Research Member of Common Room
Research Support Scientist
Department of Materials
Dr Gerardo T. Martinez serves as a Research Support Scientist in Aberration-Corrected and Conventional (Scanning) Transmission Electron Microscopy at the David Cockayne Centre for Electron Microscopy, within the Department of Materials at the University of Oxford. He provides critical support for a wide range of research projects that utilize transmission electron microscopes to analyze the properties and atomic structure of materials. His core responsibilities include the training of new users, the instrument maintenance, and the management of microscope usage. He is also deeply involved in the development of new techniques, often in collaboration with the Henry Royce Institute.
Dr Martinez’s research is driven by an interest in pioneering new electron microscopy methodologies to better characterize materials, such as electron ptychography. This advanced computational imaging technique has been instrumental in achieving unprecedented levels of resolution and precision in materials characterization. These efforts are aimed at facilitating advancements in a variety of fields, including the quantum and semiconductor industries, energy storage, soft materials, nanomaterials, and medicine.
