Dr Gilbert Babena is a Senior Lecturer in Language Sciences and Communication at the University of Maroua (Cameroon). His research focuses on pragmatics, discourse analysis, conversational interaction, crisis communication, and the linguistics of corruption. He is actively engaged in open science and scholarly publishing in Africa.
He serves as General Secretary of Le Grenier des savoirs, an open-access publishing platform, and is Collection Director for “Langues, linguistique et analyse du discours” with Éditions Science et Bien Commun (Québec), contributing to the development of research in language sciences within an open science framework.
He holds a PhD in Language Sciences (University of Ngaoundéré, 2018), a Master’s degree (2011), a Teacher Training Diploma from ENS Maroua (2014), and a BA in French Studies (2009). He also holds a certificate in Teaching French as a Foreign Language (Besançon, 2021).
He received several distinctions, including the Macky Sall Prize for Research (2022) and the Africa Oxford Initiative (2026) of the University of Oxford.
