Laura’s career in education began with her role as a teacher of French and German at Secondary School level. She is now a Senior Lecturer at the University of Oxford Department of Education, where she specialises in second language teacher education. Laura is Subject Lead for the Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Modern Languages. She is also Co-Director of the Oxford Education Deanery, which aims to engage teachers, parents and policy makers with education research. Laura’s research interests are in the field of instructed second language learning. Her recent research has focussed on the use of the target language for instruction; explicit teaching of language learning strategies; students’ motivation for learning languages other than English; languages teachers’ professional learning needs and experiences; and formative language teacher evaluation.
