Dr Luise Schlotterose is a Pharmacist with a strong interdisciplinary background in brain research. After earning her degree in Pharmacy and obtaining full licensure as a pharmacist from Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel, Germany, Luise pursued a PhD within the German Research Foundation-funded Research Training Group Materials for Brain. Her doctoral research focused on the effects of foreign body implantation and injury on brain cells, with a particular emphasis on glial cell responses.

During her PhD, she conducted a research stay at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Tel Aviv University, Israel, where she expanded her work to include models of traumatic brain injury. Upon graduating summa cum laude, Luise joined the University of Oxford’s Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics as a postdoctoral researcher. As a recipient of the prestigious Royal Society Newton International Fellowship, her current research investigates the disruption of the blood-brain barrier following traumatic brain injury and its implications for the development of neurodegenerative diseases. This work includes the development of innovative chip-based in vitro models that integrate classical 2D cultures with microfluidic systems.
