Natalie is a neuroscientist with an MSc (2018) and PhD (2023) from University of Copenhagen in Denmark. Her main research interest is the function of sleep. During her master’s, PhD and first postdoc, she worked on uncovering how sleep promotes brain cleaning via the glymphatic system. For this, she used a broad range of in vivo methods such as electrophysiological recordings, fiber photometry, SPECT imaging and miniscope imaging. In her current project, she is diving deeper into the biology of sleep by looking at how sleep micro-structure, and mainly the short awakenings that naturally occur during healthy sleep, may play a role in the restorative function of sleep. Additionally, she is interested in how cerebrospinal fluid may interact with sleep promoting or sleep inhibiting neuronal populations.
