Dr Yishun (Ethan) Lu

Research Member of Common Room

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Department of Engineering Science

Yishun Lu is now a post-doctoral researcher at the Oxford e-Research Centre, working on neural network optimization with second-order gradient descent and large-scale distributed training. His research focuses on high-performance computing and AI for Science (AI4S), with a passion for applying AI to tackle challenges in efficient computing and large-scale scientific applications. He completed a four-year Master’s degree at Oxford with a dissertation on 1D neural networks for speaker recognition, followed by a DPhil on absorption correction in long-wavelength crystallography, leveraging HPC and AI to solve complex scientific problems. During his doctorate, he was a visiting scientist at Diamond Light Source, and his work has led to publications in leading biochemistry journals.
