Nigel Mason Award 2025 - call for submissions

Award Purpose

The purpose of the Nigel Mason Award is to encourage, promote and reward research into employee ownership, in all its forms. In Nigel’s own words “promoting quality research and analysis into the employee ownership sector.”


A prize of £2,000 will be awarded annually for what the Judging Panel consider the single most significant piece of published research, or a series, on the broad issue of employee ownership.

Submission criteria

To qualify, the research should be:

  • Written by one or more authors
  • Published in book, short paper, article or survey format; online and/or print
  • Focused on the UK or other major economy
  • Published, in the UK or USA, since January 2024
  • Comprise in-depth, original quantitative and/or qualitative research and insights into employee ownership, defined as significant employee ownership of business
  • Good quality data collection
  • Include policy analysis and/or recommendations capable of influencing government, the business community or other decision-makers
  • Demonstrate innovative thinking and perspectives
  • Identify further significant gaps in knowledge about employee ownership’s performance, impact and potential
  • Readable – Nigel was unusual in writing about complex, often statistical matters in beautifully clear prose
