In Conversation with...Ringu Tulku Rinpoche - watch the film

In the latest in our series of ‘In Conversation with…’ events Mary Heneghan is in conversation with Ringu Tulku Rinpoche.

Ringu Tulku Rinpoche, is a Tibetan Buddhist Master of the Kagyu Order. During this event, he discussed his teachings, projects and experiences of interfaith dialogues from his extensive travels, with Mary Heneghan.

About the speaker:
Ringu Tulku Rinpoche is a Tibetan Buddhist Master of the Kagyu Order. He trained in all schools of Tibetan Buddhism under many great masters, of both the Nyingma and Kagyu traditions, including HH 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Dodrupchen Rinpoche. He took his formal education at Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Gangtok, and Sampurnananda Sanskrit University, at Varanasi, India, and served as Professor of Tibetology in Sikkim for 17 years. His doctoral thesis was on the Ecumenical Movement in Tibet, published under the title ‘The Ri-Me Philosophy of Jamgon Kongtrul the Great’.

Since 1990, he has been travelling and teaching Buddhism and meditation at more than 50 Universities, Institutes and Buddhist Centres in Europe, USA, Canada, Argentina, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, South Africa, Australia and Asia. He also delivers many online teachings and participates in various interfaith dialogues.

Ringu Tulku is the author of many books on Buddhist teachings, such as ‘Confusion Arises as Wisdom’ and ‘Daring Steps,’ as well as the Heart Wisdom series, and the Lazy Lama series of pocket books, published by Bodhicharya Publications.

He founded Bodhicharya (www.bodhicharya.org), an international organisation that coordinates worldwide activities to preserve and transmit Buddhist teachings, promote inter-cultural dialogues and support educational & social projects. He also founded Rigul Trust which supports a number of medical and educational projects, mainly in his birthplace of Rigul, Tibet (www.rigultrust.org).

Rinpoche is the Official Representative of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa for Europe and the Founder of Karmapa Foundation Europe (www.karmapafoundation.eu).

About Mary Heneghan:
Mary is an alumnus of St Hilda’s College, where she studied Medicine, and Linacre College, where she completed a Master’s in Experimental Psychology. She later worked in healthcare research in an Oxford University-based organisation (The Partnership for Child Development) supporting projects worldwide. She has worked as an acupuncturist in Oxford since 2000 and came to study Buddhist teachings as a source of wisdom, advice and support for people in their lives. She has been a student of Ringu Tulku’s and Tibetan Buddhism for over 20 years, and teaches Tibetan yoga and meditation, holding a regular online meditation group called the White Tara Group. She has written up many of Ringu Tulku’s teachings into several books, and oversees their publication as senior editor and a director of Bodhicharya Publications.
