Kellogg unveils sustainable kitchen upgrade
Kellogg is delighted with the completion of our £2.4 million kitchen enhancement, finalised in October.
The state-of-the-art facilities will improve the experience of the College’s growing community. They offer expanded catering capabilities and the capacity to host more events.
Kellogg’s Head Chef, Jonathan Wilmot, explained how the new facilities have improved his team’s output: “The entire catering team has been thrilled to move into the new kitchen and are very positive about the enhanced facilities. Moving in mid-term did bring some additional challenges which were overcome by the whole team with total professionalism. The new, sustainable facilities have transformed the way we work, and we’re excited to start making the most of our new toys!”
The upgrade also reflects the College’s commitment to sustainability, with features that reduce environmental impact.
A sustainable vision for enhanced facilities
The new kitchen has been thoughtfully designed to respect the character of the College’s historic site while incorporating innovative, eco-friendly principles.
Key features of the upgrade
• Passivhaus design: The new kitchen adheres to Passivhaus principles, ensuring energy efficiency and sustainability.
• Solar power: Solar panels installed on the roof contribute to renewable energy generation.
• All-electric operations: Transitioning to an all-electric kitchen reduces the carbon footprint compared to traditional gas systems.
• Rainwater management: Rainwater is directed into soakaways to nourish plants by encouraging deeper root growth.
• Biodiversity focus: Surrounding garden areas have been replanted to support increased biodiversity.
• Heritage conservation: Bricks from the original structure have been retained and reused, blending environmental and historical preservation.
This project highlights the College’s dedication to creating a welcoming, sustainable, and forward-thinking environment for our community, paving the way for a greener future.
