Kellogg welcomes first Royal Literary Fund Fellow

September 6, 2023

We are delighted to announce Kellogg’s first Royal Literary Fund Fellow, writer-in-residence Julie Summers.

The Royal Literary Fund Fellowship scheme places professional writers in higher education institutions to offer writing support to all students as Writing Fellows. The principal aim of the Fellow’s work is to foster good writing practice across all disciplines.

All members of Kellogg will be able to meet Julie Summers on a voluntary basis, one-to-one, for 50 minutes. Simply book into an available slot in her timetable.

Kellogg members can book just one session, or may return several times during the year, as long as the Fellow feels progress is being made. Students are discouraged from asking Julie to edit or correct work before it is handed in or to seek the her opinion on the marks given by tutors. The focus is on an early draft of writing or just a section of that draft, or notes on a title, and, during the course of the consultation, the student can seek advice on particular aspects of style or technique.

Julie will be in College on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during term. 50-minute slots will be available at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. Her first week will be 0th Week (1st-7th October). Meetings will take place in the meeting room in no.66 Banbury Road, you will need your University card to enter.

Of the appointment, Julie said:

I am so looking forward to joining Kellogg College in October. Helping students to find confidence in their writing ‘voice’ is the main part of my job and it is so rewarding. I am very excited about working with a new cohort in my role as Royal Literary Fund Fellow.”
