Meet our new Scholar, Tabitha, starting at Kellogg this autumn
Tabitha Hubbard holds the Oxford-Kellogg Graduate Scholarship and is starting a DPhil in Population Health.
We asked her what inspired her to apply to study at Oxford:
My Journey to the University of Oxford began with a research internship. During my MSc in Nutrition and Biomedicine at the Technical University of Munich, I undertook a research placement at the Nuffield Department of Population Health, working with the Mexico City Prospective Study (MCPS). This opportunity allowed me to familiarise myself with the project and the research team and inspired me to apply to study a DPhil with them.
We also asked her about her research:
My DPhil research will focus on constructing an atlas of metabolomic risk factors for specific diseases and mortality in the Mexican population.
I hope that my studies at oxford will provide me with the tools to become an excellent researcher. The skills and knowledge within the fields of epidemiology and statistics that I will gain will enable me to hopefully contribute to public health improvements in developing countries.
I am particularly looking forward to meeting other students and exchanging ideas and participating in activities together.
Tabitha also provided some excellent advice for prospective applicants:
My advice to anyone thinking of applying to Oxford is to note down the deadline and the requirements carefully. This will ensure you apply within the right timeframe, which is especially important if you are also applying for funding. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact the admissions team; they were very helpful to me throughout the whole process.
