Research Member of Common Room

Postdoctoral Researcher

Department of Engineering Science

Atılım Güneş Baydin is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. His general research interests include deep learning, algorithmic differentiation, and evolutionary computation. He is currently working at the intersection of generative modeling, probabilistic programming, and deep neural networks, with a focus on the application of machine learning techniques to real-world problems in physical sciences. Prior to joining Oxford, he was working as a postdoctoral researcher at the National University of Ireland Maynooth, specializing in algorithmic differentiation and its applications in machine learning. He received his PhD in artificial intelligence from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2013, where he worked on analogical and commonsense reasoning. He received his bachelor’s degree from Middle East Technical University and a master’s degree from Chalmers University of Technology, where he worked on artificial life and computational physics in the Complex Adaptive Systems programme.
