Director of Language and Cultural Studies, Oxford University Department for Continuing Education

Katie Gray was educated at the Lycee Francais in London, and then read French and Italian at Somerville. Her early career involved her in teaching in a wide range of schools and at a French university. She then moved to Scotland and taught at Edinburgh and Stirling Universities, followed by a year in a post graduate institute in Japan, before taking up her post in Oxford.

As Director of Language and Cultural Studies she was able to combine her interests in language teaching pedagogy, applied linguistics and cross-cultural communication. She coordinated the department’s ever growing weekly class programme in modern languages taught on the newly established Masters in Second Language Acquisition, set up and taught on a training course for Junior Diplomats and an Advanced Diploma in British Studies. In collaboration with Oxford University Press she developed an annual summer seminar for international teachers of English.

She has watched the development and growth of Kellogg with great interest and is committed to the idea of making the experience of an Oxford education available to non-traditional students.  Her own involvement with lifelong learning and language maintenance has meant that she now attends a Reading Latin Texts class offered by OUDCE.
