Charles Boyle directs and teaches on the Department for Continuing Education’s full-time pre-Master’s courses (Advanced Diploma in British and European Studies and Foundations of Diplomacy).
He is also responsible for the planning, academic oversight and evaluation of a number of short courses for international students including Tsinghua University, Keio University and Santander Universities (Brazil), for professional development courses for English language teachers and for OUP’s global Oxford Teachers’ Academy programme.
He has taught English to international students, trained language teachers and has presented on course design and language testing and assessment at major international conferences worldwide. He has authored specialised English courses and online materials for the award-winning Campaign, English for the Military series (Macmillan, 2005, 2006). He also co-authored English for Law Enforcement (Macmillan, 2009) winner of the David Riley Award for Innovation in Business English and ESP and has recently written a new book on language testing for Oxford University Press published in 2013.
He has lived and worked in Hungary, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia and the Middle East and has carried out consultancies on behalf of the UK Ministry of Defence, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, British Council and NATO.
He is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.
