Dr Chiara Toschi
Junior Research Fellow
Post-doctoral Researcher, Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences
PhD (Cambridge); MSc (UCL); BSc (Royal Holloway University)
Chiara Toschi is a postdoctoral neuroscientist and she is interested in understanding the circuit mechanisms regulating adaptive and maladaptive behaviour. Currently based at the BNDU, her research focuses on the interplay between neurotransmitter release and neuronal activity across various brain regions during effort-based decision-making. The ultimate goal of her work is to explore the neural foundations underlying our decisions to pursue rewards despite the effort involved. To achieve this, she employs a combination of behavioural assessments, neural recordings, and computational modelling techniques.
Chiara is also an Editor for Research Careers, a researchers-led initiative that collaborates with the Careers Service (University of Oxford) to curate and present career profiles of individuals who have completed their PhDs and transitioned to non-academic careers. Ultimately, their mission is to expand the career perspectives of PhD graduates considering paths outside of academia (Explore Your Options Beyond Academia). As part of their efforts, they are currently producing a podcast series featuring interviews with professionals across diverse fields.
