Andrew Hann is Historians Team Leader at English Heritage where he has worked since 2007. He is a social historian and specialises in researching and writing about country houses and historic gardens.
Recent Work
Some of his more recent work includes the NLHF-funded project to reinterpret Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens in Northumberland and a new scheme of garden interpretation at Wrest Park in Bedfordshire. Andrew also has an interest in contested heritage, and was the lead historian for English Heritage’s work to commemorate the bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade in 2007, and more recently worked on ‘Liberty and Lottery’ a temporary exhibition at Brodsworth Hall near Doncaster, which highlighted the site’s connections to the transatlantic slave economy.
Andrew also leads on English Heritage’s external engagement with HEIs and other heritage bodies, and has been involved in a number of collaborative projects with the University of Oxford including collaborative PhDs and knowledge exchange initiatives. He is currently working with Prof Christine Gerrard and Dr J C Niala on a project to explore the potential of poetry both historic and newly created to enhance community engagement with heritage.
