Martin is a Visiting Fellow at the Physics Department. His background is in mathematics and atmospheric dynamics, followed by 20 years working at the Science and Technology Facilities Council with the British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC) and as Deputy Head of of the Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA).

He led a major study on the challenges of achieving net zero in UKRI digital research infrastructure.

His current work is focused on two main strands. Firstly, making climate data accessible through broadened participation in the strategic planning process, working with international partners to formulate data requirements for the next phase of globally coordinated climate simulations. Secondly, following on from the initial net zero work to inform and incite change in UKRI’s research culture: how do we work sustainably while maintaining a focus on academic excellence?
