José gained a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Heidelberg. His background is in nutritional, ageing and cancer epidemiology. The focus of his previous research has been mainly on the role that vitamin D plays in the elderly, particularly for the risk of cancer.
At the moment he collaborates in different projects that mainly focus on the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.
He is also a member of the teaching staff for the Meta-Analysis and Introduction to Study Design and Research Methods EBHC modules.
He is experienced in systematic reviews and meta-analyses, as well as with the analysis of large epidemiological cohort data and individual participant meta-analysis.
