Laurent Servais MD, PhD is Professor of Paediatric Neuromuscular Disease at the University of Oxford, and invited professor at the University of Liege, Belgium. He graduated from the University of Louvain (Medicine), Brussels (Paediatrics), Liège (Child Neurology) and Paris VI (Myology, and Habilitation à Diriger des recherches). Laurent has carried out investigations into spinal muscular atrophy, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Myotubular Myopathy. He is also the leader of a large European prospective natural history study in X-MTM and other centronuclear myopathy, and of the Newborn Screening Program for spinal muscular atrophy in Southern Belgium. His main research interests are innovative outcome measures using connected devices, and newborn screening. He has created a strong relationship with various Egyptian and Romanian hospitals where he consults every year as a myologist.
