Dr Mary Mahoney

Mary is a Trustee and the Secretary of the Universities Association for Lifelong Learning (UALL), the representative body for universities’ work in lifelong learning, adult education, continuing education and employer-responsive provision. Until late 2022 she was the Director of Access and Lifelong Learning at the University of Wolverhampton and she is now Director of Mary Mahoney Consulting Limited which provides specialist consultancy services in adult and lifelong learning and innovation.
Mary’s research background is in public health policy and the role of learning as a key determinant of population health. Her recent work focuses on policies and practice that enable access to education and learning for adults across the lifespan. She has led on a range of strategic initiatives in Australia, Wales and England and has worked on both WHO Healthy City and UNESCO Learning City initiatives, focusing on place-based developments and the role of learning in economic and social transformation and development. She has an extensive track record in leadership in teaching, research and knowledge exchange and has worked in universities in Australia, England and Wales. She is a Fellow of the RSA.
