Dr Taiyu Zhu

Taiyu is a Research Fellow at the Department of Psychiatry and Novo Nordisk Research Centre Oxford. He was awarded the Novo Nordisk – Oxford Research Fellowship for his project that leverages deep learning and large human genomic datasets in UK Biobank to identify potential novel genes for cardiometabolic traits.
He completed his PhD degree in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London in 2022, funded by the President’s PhD Scholarship. Prior to this, he obtained his MSc degree from the same department at Imperial College London and a BEng (Hons) degree from the Australian National University.
Taiyu’s research primarily focuses on harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the health and well-being of individuals with cardiometabolic diseases. His expertise includes developing various novel deep learning algorithms to support clinical decision-making, deploying cutting-edge AI on wearable and edge devices, and creating digital health systems for diabetes management. Currently, he is also expanding AI applications in neurodegenerative diseases and investigating large language models in digital health, particularly in mental health care. He is passionate about transformative power of AI in health, aiming to develop innovative solutions for personalized medicine to address global health challenges
